ZOOM: MANJIRAS WORKSHOP

LEARN TO PLAY THE MANJIRA!

In just three hours, you will learn how to play the most important manjira beats used in kirtan. We’ll also cover some important basics about how and when to play and some important do’s and don’ts to keep in mind when playing with others.

Did you Know?

Manjira is a set of small cymbals traditionally used in kirtan and dance. Also known as taal, which is the Sanskrit word for clap. The precussion instrument originated in the Indian subcontinent and have been found on many ancient temple wall paintings dating back thousands of years.

ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE

Here is what you will learn:

  • Basic beats: slow and fast beats with variations.
  • How to play big manjiras (whompers), small manjiram, and wooden kartals.
  • General do’s and don’ts when playing with others.

ZOOM

In order to take part in this Music Workshop, you must download and install the Zoom app on your computer or mobile device and set up a Zoom account. You must also enter into the Zoom Meeting through your Zoom account.

The course will be taught in English. The following translations can be made available upon request: Czech/Slovak, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.
