Description
The Alvars (“those immersed in God”) were 12 bhakti poet-saints of south India, and Sri Andal was one of them, the only female Alvar. She is considered an incarnation of Bhu-Devi, and is present and honoured in all Sri Vaishnava temples in India and elsewhere.
She lived in the early 8th century and is known for her extraordinary unwavering love and devotion to Lord Krishna even as a small child. Sri Andal is renowned for her poetry, the garlands she made for the Lord, her wedding story and her vanishing into Him at Srivilliputhur Temple at the age of 15.
