The Gayatri Mantras – Sri Swami Vishwananda

During a special Gayatri yagna retreat at the Shree Peetha Nilaya
ashram,
Premavatar Sri Swami Vishwananda recorded this beautiful Gayatri CD.
As He explained, this most ancient and sacred mantra is also called “The
Mother of the Vedas” and “The Mother of all Mantras” as it contains in
Itself all the mantras. The ancient Hindu scriptures describe how the
sage Vishwamitra was given the Gayatri mantra by the Supreme Being as a
reward for his many years of deep penance and meditation. This was to
be a gift for all humanity.
It is said that this sacred prayer spirals through the entire universe
from the heart of the chanter, appealing for peace and divine wisdom for
all.
The Gayatri Mantra inspires wisdom in us. In very basic but beautiful
language, it says “May the divine light of the Supreme Being illuminate
our intellect, to lead us along a path of righteousness”. But the mantra
does even more – it opens up your heart. And how well we know, when
both our minds and our hearts open, we open ourselves up for new
possibilities.
For many devout Hindus, the Gayatri is seen as a Divine awakening of the
individual mind and the individual soul – Atman — and within it, a way
to Union with the collective consciousness – Brahman. Understanding and
simply loving the essence of the Gayatri Mantra is considered by many
to be one of the most powerful ways to touching God.

It is highly recommended to chant the Gayatri mantra 3 times at sunrise,
3 times at noon and 3 times at sunset.

to open our consciousness.
It contains the main and world-renowned Gayatri Mantra:
om bhūr bhuvah svaha
tat savitūr varenyam
bhargo devasya dhīmahi
dhyo yo nah prachodayāt
Meaning:
“Oh Divine Mother, we meditate on Thee as the Supreme Light that
illumines the earth, the sky and the heavens, the adorable Sun of Divine
Consciousness that illumines the devas and dissipates all darkness and
ignorance, through Thy Grace may you enlighten our intellect and awaken
the same brilliant Divine Light in us.”
